Discover The Coffee House & Kitchen

Tucked along 212 Monton Rd, Eccles, Manchester M30 9LJ, United Kingdom, The Coffee House & Kitchen is one of those places you almost want to keep to yourself. I first stopped by on a rainy Saturday morning after hearing consistent praise in local reviews, and since then, it has become my go-to spot whenever I’m in Monton and craving a proper brunch or a relaxed coffee break.

From the outside, it feels like a classic neighbourhood café. Step inside, though, and the warm lighting, rustic wooden tables, and steady hum of conversation instantly set the tone. It’s the kind of environment hospitality experts often describe as crucial for repeat custom. According to the UKHospitality industry reports, ambience and service quality are among the top factors influencing customer loyalty in independent restaurants. You can feel that principle in action here.

Let’s talk about the menu, because that’s where this place really shines. The breakfast options strike a balance between comfort food and lighter, health-conscious dishes. On my first visit, I ordered smashed avocado on sourdough with poached eggs. The eggs were perfectly runny-clearly cooked with care rather than rushed-and the sourdough had that ideal crisp edge and soft centre. On another occasion, I tried their full English breakfast, and it was generous without being overwhelming. The sausages tasted locally sourced, and the bacon was thick-cut and properly grilled.

I once brought a friend who works in nutrition, and we ended up discussing how cafés are adapting to modern dietary needs. The British Nutrition Foundation highlights that more UK diners now look for plant-based or balanced meal options when eating out. The Coffee House & Kitchen reflects this shift with vegetarian choices, lighter lunch plates, and fresh salads that don’t feel like an afterthought. It’s clear that the kitchen understands evolving food trends while still respecting classic diner staples.

Coffee, of course, is central here. I’ve watched the baristas at work, carefully weighing grounds and timing their espresso shots. That attention to process matters. The Specialty Coffee Association emphasises precision in brewing-grind size, water temperature, and extraction time all affect flavour. Whether you’re ordering a flat white or a cappuccino, the consistency suggests the team has been trained properly. My flat white had a smooth, velvety texture and a balanced flavour, not too bitter and not overly milky.

Service deserves a mention too. On busy weekend mornings, the place fills quickly, yet staff remain calm and attentive. Orders arrive promptly, and there’s always someone checking in without hovering. I’ve seen them handle dietary questions with patience, explaining ingredients and preparation methods clearly. That transparency builds trust, especially for customers with allergies or specific requirements.

The lunch menu is equally appealing. Sandwiches are served on fresh bread with well-paired fillings, and the homemade soups rotate regularly. One standout for me was a roasted tomato and red pepper soup that tasted deeply rich and comforting. Portions are fair, pricing feels reasonable for Greater Manchester, and the quality matches what you’d expect from a well-reviewed independent café.

Online reviews frequently highlight the friendly atmosphere and consistent food quality, and in my experience, that reputation holds up. It’s not trying to be overly trendy or experimental. Instead, it focuses on doing simple things exceptionally well-good coffee, thoughtful dishes, welcoming service, and a relaxed dining space.

If there’s one limitation, it’s that seating can be tight during peak hours. It’s clearly popular with locals, families, and remote workers alike. Arriving early or slightly outside peak brunch times makes for a more relaxed visit.

All in all, this Monton café blends community charm with professional standards. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick espresso, settling down with friends for brunch, or exploring new breakfast spots around Eccles, this is one address that consistently delivers quality and comfort without the fuss.

  • This review is long overdue!! Over two months ago my boyfriend and I walked into the coffee house, just for a coffee! Ordered an iced oat matcha latte which was delicious!! The atmosphere was hip and cool and even lovlier since it was table service! They also have a lovely backyard which looks awesome for a summer brunch!! Excited to go back there and try their food!

  • The best coffee house in Monton…hands down! Me and my partner popped in recently and we both agreed straight away that this is our favourite coffee spot ever. The atmosphere is cosy, welcoming and just what you want from a local coffee house and the staff were so friendly! I ordered the steak eggs Benedict with chorizo, and honestly… it was the best breakfast I’ve ever had. The steak was tender, the eggs were cooked perfectly, and the chorizo added the most incredible flavour. I absolutely loved it! The coffee was amazing too, smooth, rich and clearly made with care. We absolutely love this place and will definitely keep coming back. Highly recommend to anyone in Monton looking for great food, perfect coffee and lovely service!
